Our commitment to the environment

Hotel Jardín Tecina is located on the island of La Gomera, declared an outstanding World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2012, with the Garajonay National Park previously declared a World Heritage site in 1987.

THESE ARE THE ACTIONS WE ARE TAKING

  • Water use: we have our own water supply and desalination system. Pressure regulators have been installed in sinks and baths to reduce flow without affecting service.
  • Wastewater treatment: we treat wastewater in order to irrigate the hotel's gardens and golf course.
  • Electricity use: our electrical equipment has been upgraded to make them more energy efficient. We have a water chilling plant for the air conditioning system with heat exchangers in order to heat the pools.
  • Fuel use: solar energy covers much of our needs, providing 45 per cent of the energy needed to heat our pools and for use by guests in their rooms.
  • Use of pool cleaning products: the products used to clean and maintain our pools are gradually being changed to biological alternatives.
  • Solid waste management: the solid waste produced by the hotel is sorted and separated to facilitate recycling or reuse. All our employees are fully aware of the importance of reducing waste to a minimum, and we encourage the use of material that is the least aggressive for the environment. The plant waste from the hotel’s gardens and golf course is processed into fertiliser for our organic garden Eco Finca Tecina.
  • Commitment to sustainable development: wherever possible, we use locally made products and locally grown product, which also encourages familiarity with our surroundings.
  • Charging point for electric vehicles: we have a charging area for electric cars, and thus help reduce polluting gas emissions.
