Did you know that the maritime corridor between Tenerife and La Gomera is the first certified pilot whale heritage enclave in Europe?
With its unique resident population of pilot whales that can be found alongside a great diversity of other marine mammal species, all within a designation as a Special Area of Conservation, it is no wonder that Tenerife-La Gomera Whale Heritage Site has become at a whale watching destination.
The Tenerife-La Gomera Marine Area became a Certified Whale Heritage Site in January 2021.
To care for and protect this habitat of dolphins and whales, as well as other species, collectives from non-profit organizations, government departments, whale watching operators, the scientific community and many more have been involved. All with the unified goal of protecting whales and dolphins and their habitats, and thus preserving this gift of nature.
Looking forward to watching these whales, dolphins, and 21 more species?
You can do it from our hotel, from some of our Superior rooms with direct views of the sea or from certain areas of the hotel such as: Camino del Horizonte, Mirador over our Club Laurel, the terrace of the Gara restaurant and from the balcony of the Principal restaurant.
You can also see them between Tapahuga Bay and Playa de Santiago Bay. The months with the most sightings are from March to June and from September to October, since it is the breeding season and the dolphins are more playful, and the adult specimens teach the younger ones to play and fish in the bays, where they sit more protected.
If you want to get a closer look , learn more about the life of these marvellous creatures and see them in their natural habitat, do not miss the boat trips from Playa de Santiago.
